This job required us to shoot in a server room which is always prohibitive as working server rooms for obvious reasons do not want a film crew in them (one switch knocked or or a power outage would take down any sites being hosted there).  We were able to find a location in a building that used to be a server room but was now empty.  The job required filling it with servers.  Again this would be too expensive to to get all operational parts.  The solution I came up with was to purchase new server cabinets to get a clean and consistent look, as the ones for rent in prop houses are both dated and beat up, plus we were shooting in San Francisco which would of required transporting them from L.A. and partially fill the ones that had close action on them with actual hardware.  For the remainder I took a bunch of photographs of rack mount server parts and printed them actual size and mounted them to foamcore.  The foamcore mounted prints were put in the cabinets and were seen through the glass doors (which I tinted down a little) From behind the photo prints we inserted a few LED bulbs, some which remained on and some on flicker circuits. (Less being more in this instance). The results I think are very effective.
